Mission

Educators connected by a shared vision and purpose of educational equity and justice thrive in the field. The University of Buffalo Teacher Residency Consortium (UBTRC) is dedicated to supporting a culture of collaborative professionalism in the local teaching community as part of the goal of ensuring a more equitable school experience for all students. The consortium supports residents, alumni, mentors, faculty, school leaders and administrators, and community members to collaborate on inquiry-based, data-driven investigations of real-time instruction and engage in activities designed to facilitate the development of a culture of collaborative professionalism. The consortium supports educators’ professional learning and growth so that all children have the schools they need and deserve.
 
To do this, the UBTRC facilitates the following:

Vision

The UBTR Consortium (UBTRC) is the “heart” of UBTR—where the mission and vision of the UBTR program is cultivated, nurtured and sustained. Educators stay in the field when they can live their teaching philosophy and do work that fosters real and positive opportunities for children to grow and learn. The UBTRC will keep folx in touch with what inspires them to teach while facilitating their growth as educators and teacher-activists.

Beliefs that undergird consortium

​Educators need to stay in touch with their motivations for becoming an educator
Educators have an obligation to work in solidarity for social change and must do this work both inside and outside of their classrooms;
Educators need relationships with co-conspirators who will sustain them and keep them in the classroom:
Developing tools to enact identities of “agents of change” will allow consortium members to connect their philosophy with action
